Hush Lyrics and Origins

“never again shall a single story be told as though it were the only one.”

Hush originates from the infamous Highland Clearances, in this tune we wanted to reflect the feeling of sadness, despair, loss of hope, mixed with the will to fight, the energy to overcome. This Song we dedicate to our beloved Alba…..

Hush, hush, time to be sleeping,
Hush, hush, dreams come a creeping,
O dreams of peace and of freedom,
So smile in your sleep Bonnie Baby.
Once our valleys were ringing,
With sounds of our children singing,
But now sheep bleat till the evening,
And sheelings stand empty and open.

Chorus
We stood our heads bowed in prayer,
While factors burnt our homes with no care,
The flames licked the clear mountain air,
And many were dead by the morning.

Chorus
Where was our fierce highland mettle,
Our men once so fearless in battle,
Now stand cowed, huddled like cattle,
And wait to be shipped ower the ocean

Chorus.
No use pleading or praying
Now gone, gone, all hopes of staying,
So hush, hush, the anchor’s aweighing,
Don’t cry in your sleep Bonnie Baby.
Hush, hush, time to be sleeping,
Hush, hush, dreams come a creeping,
O dreams of peace and of freedom,
So smile in your sleep Bonnie Baby.     x2
